Last Saturday afternoon (15th April) saw the official opening of a new bench in front of the village hall, in memory of Reg Myers, who passed away unexpectedly in January 2021.
Reg and his wife Yvonne have lived in the village for 59 years, during which time they have worked tirelessly to support the local community by volunteering at the village hall. Yvonne, who has been a village hall Trustee for over 40 years, spoke a little about Reg, as did Sylvia Haines and Matthew Anderson.
When this event was first published on the Coming Soon page, a tongue-in-cheek request was made for a ‘sparkling spring day’. And this is exactly what appeared, as can be seen in the following photograph, which shows Yvonne being the first official ‘bench sitter’.
There was excellent turnout of well-wishers, many of whom then migrated inside to chat over tea and cake, while reflecting on Reg’s many years of fixing, cleaning, locking, unlocking and overseeing to keep the village hall running smoothly.
