Your Village Hall Needs You

Welburn and Crambeck Village Hall plea for volunteers.

Welburn & Crambeck Village Hall is a precious community hub, which is run entirely by volunteers. Due to personal circumstances, we are about to lose two of our small team and we urgently need volunteers to help keep this much-loved village resource open.

We need a Treasurer and an Events Lead. The village hall committee is run as informally as possible and you can to a large extent make these roles as modest or as ambitious as you wish.

The current Trustees have kindly offered to provide as much help as is needed for anyone taking on these essential roles.

Jillian Allenby (Bookings Secretary)

A few years ago, we were alarmed to read a Facebook post that the Village Hall was in danger of permanently closing its doors because of a shortage of Trustees. We simply could not imagine Welburn without this popular focal point.

Neither of us have ever thought of ourselves as being the ‘volunteer type’ but after discussing it, we decided to try to help. We dropped leaflets through doors and were pleasantly surprised by the response, proving, we think, that a lot of people share our view that a village should feel like a village and not just be a collection of isolated houses.

I took on the responsibility for this website you are seeing now. It suited my skillset and was easy to fit around my work and other commitments. Jillian took on the role of Bookings Secretary, which suited her previous business experience.

And it is one of the best things we have ever done. It is tremendously rewarding to work as part of a friendly team again and have a sense of being able to give something back to the village – a place we feel privileged to call ‘home’. We have also met more fellow villagers than we can count and now feel more of a sense of community than either of us have felt anywhere else we have lived.
